Greenock’s Oak Mall has been voted top shopping destination by the readers of Greeting Cards Monthly. A recent poll voted Inverclyde’s second-top indoor shopping centre (second only to the Stewart Centre) as Britain’s best place to buy greetings cards, with literally dozens of choices within a 300m radius which cater to all sorts of occasions, from Christmas, birthdays and weddings to divorces, Kwanza and various Wiccan holidays such as Ostara and Midsummer.
Oak Mall boss Claire Jefcoate, who famously lied about the Oak Mall’s financial state shortly before it was placed into administration in November 2013, said the shopping centre should be proud of the award and want to add more greeting card shops as soon as possible. “We have a Sentiments, a Card Factory, a Hallmark, Clinton Cards, a Paperbox, not to mention that cards are also sold in Wilkinsons, WH Smith Poundworld, Poundland, Superdrug and that shitey “Gifto” shop that also sells the framed pictures of Tupac and all the lighters and iPhone cases with pictures of hash leaves on them. In my opinion, I would say that Greenock is probably the greeting cards capital of the world. Even if they don’t have the kind of card you’re looking for, if you ask them they’ll make it for you. Probably.”
“With Valentine’s Day on the Horizon, we want to try to add to that number with a few pop-up stores in the middle of the Mall. Other stores will also benefit from this, such as Argos who generally see a 15% rise in the sales of Elizabeth Duke jewellery on the run-up to the big day. Everybody is a winner!”
